About

Comme au marché is inspired by my time living in Paris, my interest in all things edible and the spontaneous adventures of big city life.

The literal translation of comme au marché is “as if at the market.” This blog – like a real, live market – is an ever-evolving thing.  It will change with the seasons, the people I meet, the music I hear, the places I travel. What ties it all together is something I call the “market mentality“: showing up with a curious mind and making the most of each day’s harvest.

Je m’appelle Carly…

I was raised in a creative, food-loving, Italian family, but France has always had a certain pull on my heart. I started studying the language when I was seven-years-old, and eventually moved to Paris for graduate studies in French culture and culinary criticism. Since returning to New York, I’ve worked in the fields of food, editorial, education, French culture, event planning and holistic health. Most recently, I’ve joined the team at the Institute of Culinary Education, managing their social media and editorial efforts. I also contribute regularly to Honest Cooking and Sofar Sounds NYC.

Recommendations for wonderful bakeries and cafes by St. Germain-des-Pres or the Latin Quarter. I am staying at Hotel Lindbergh at 5 Ave Chomel, 75007 and love to go for a wonderful espresso and Parisian breakfast very early and also love trying cafes/bistros like a local.

    • Hi Kathy –

See my “Paris” page for all my personal Paris suggestions. Eric Kayser is fairly close to the Luxembourg Gardens, for example.

You might also check out David Lebovitz’s blog or Paris pastry app – he’s the master when it comes to baked goods in the city.

      Bon appetit!

      Carly
